Reflections: Enjoy Spring, enjoy life

I don't know what it is about the March and the beginning of Spring. There's something about this time of year that completely wakes me up. I feel as if my eyes, my heart and my spirit are more in tune with the world. It's hard to explain, but this is the time of year when my creativity flows so freely.
Something about March makes me feel fearless in my artistic projects but also in life in general. I feel empowered and alive. I definitely see a difference if I compare this month to all the other months of the year.  Sometimes I wish it was always this way, but would I enjoy Spring if I didn't go through Winter and other tough times of the year?  Probably not as much.

I've set aside the hard days of winter that caused me frustration and I'm looking forward to brighter days ahead as I move forward, metaphorically speaking and literally as well.  I focus on the things that bring me happiness. I'm lucky that a lot of those projects seem to pop up particularly during this time of the year.  For instance, I'm working on theater, dance and poetry projects this month.

Whether this time of the year motivates you or not (thank God we are all different), you should take the time to do things that break the monotony of life, things that can make life more enjoyable. I don't mean going out and partying but making time to do those things that bring you joy.  Perhaps knitting is your thing, or watching a hockey game, bike riding or taking a nice walk with your dog -- the possibilities are endless.

Lists are one way to start. Make a list of at least ten things that you enjoy but  never have time for. It could be something simple but lovely like reading with your kids. I challenge you to do at least one of those things this week. Place the list on your refrigerator or somewhere where you can see it, to remind yourself to enjoy life. I have a note that simply says "breathe."  Reminders work. This is a reminder to myself to slow down and to not get so stressed.

So breathe, enjoy Spring and enjoy life.
