Candlelight vigil tonight; President Obama will visit Dallas tomorrow

DALLAS – Tonight, the Dallas Strong Candlelight Vigil will begin at 8 p.m. at Dallas City Hall Plaza, 1500 Marilla Street. DART will provide free shuttle service to the vigil from the Dallas Convention Center starting at 6 p.m., continuing one-hour post vigil. The vigil is open to the public.

Guests can park at the Convention Center Lot off of Griffin. Approximately 600 spots are available at this location. DART buses will pick up guests at Griffin and Ceremonial and shuttle them down Young Street and drop off at the steps to City Hall Plaza adjacent to the flag poles. The buses will loop back around from St. Paul and return to Griffin and Ceremonial for the next pickup.

Pickups will begin at 6 p.m. and run until the vigil starts at 8 p.m. Return shuttles will pick up at the drop off location and return guests to Griffin and Ceremonial to return to their vehicles. The return service will run for one hour after the event ends.

Surface lots nearest to City Hall are along Canton Street and also at Young Street and Ervay will be available for parking for guests. These lots are shaded in Green. Additional lots shaded in orange may have available parking with the exception of Lot E at the Convention Center which is contracted for an event.

Tomorrow, President Obama will speak at an interfaith ceremony honoring our fallen officers. The private event will be held at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, 2301 Flora St. He will also meet privately with the families of the fallen police officers and those who were injured.

For security reasons, authorities are unable to list specific downtown street closures, but drivers should expect significant delays tonight and tomorrow. Dallas Police and the Streets Department strongly recommend that residents plan their workday accordingly by flexing their time; arriving and leaving earlier or later in the day if possible.
